Starting gun

I find writing so hard, even when I have something to say. That's why I make videos and podcasts — verbally, my brain and ideas are unfiltered, a pure stream of consciousness. I get a lot of pleasure from a good mind dump. (Be kind.)

So what is the Field Notes all about? It's a kick up the backside. A realisation that I am no longer the person I once was. I won't go over the whole story, leaving my job, going full time with photography, caring for my daughter again. You can watch that video here and catch up. No, this post is more of a note to myself, before I miss the starting gun.

I feel completely lost at the moment. Like I've been conditioned over many years, since leaving school, into believing there is only one way to live and one way to make money. That programming is taking some time to shake off. Finding my feet is a work in progress.

So I write this because time is flying. I have irons in the fire and how many other idioms can I fit in one sentence? 🤣 I do love an idiom. So I'll bite the bullet and train my brain to leave that old world behind. Bear with me.

What's the point of the post? Well, that's kind of the point. It's a place where I can journal, say things publicly, and maybe it resonates with you. A place to share a photograph I like, just because I can. Sometimes short, sometimes long, but once a week I'll be dropping my thoughts and some personal creativity here.

Below is a photograph I took this week. A tough gig, wet, windy, and very dark under the canopy. I feel the image is an example of equivalence, the feeling and the expression meeting what I could see. My mood, my emotions, and the symbolism interacting and combining. Equivalence and looking deeper into my photography have been an ongoing process for many years. It's important, especially when I'm taking people out on workshops or running mentoring sessions, but most of all for my own self-expression, growth, and staying excited and focused. To grow, not just photographically, but emotionally and intellectually.

I'll leave it there for now, but I'll be back next week with some links to Minor White and some of the peers I admire and keep returning to for inspiration.
