A Day With Trees
Continuing my a day in a life project, I spent some time with trees
So many thoughts flying round my mind at the moment, so I’m glad I made some notes whilst walking amongst my friends at Jonnies woods. To start I would like to thanks Jen Spiers for the loan of her IR converted camera, all the images in the post where made with a Zeiss FS 1.8 / 55mm Sony A7RIII.
My connection to these trees spans many years and with this I feel and hear the echo of the past and those moments come back to me like a dream. The images below I feel represent this state of mind and a time stamp of how these majestic living friends grow on and thrive. This are is predominately Beech, Oak Hawthorne and Sycamore, but I have noticed the rise of Rowan, a new species growing here and there, a delightful dance they have woven between the giants. Now yesterday I couldn’t get to the big Oaks, the understory and ferns are huge, and not for me to smash them down and make a path through, so I took a different route. This way gives way to the last of the light. I was so excited by what I was seeing, such abundance of growth and flourishing understory. I’ve got everything crossed for a spot of fog to hit this areas, a rarity indeed. It’s been awhile since I made a video on my doorstep so that would be the calling card to making one.
I wouldn’t be telling you the full story if I didn’t mention that I got quite caught up and emotional on this visit. Those moments and memories are forever held in this woodland. So much has changed in my life and the feeling of soul and heart are very present in the place. Two weeks since I spent some time amongst trees and I could feel it. The feeling of wanted to protect this area and all that grow within felt stronger than ever. So my task at the end of the week is to contact Woodland Trust and other authorities to see who manages and owns this land. Inspired by my good friend Mark Adams and more recently Joy Kachina to start to look into conservation and a deeper knowledge of this area, although I already know alot about this woodland it would be interesting to find out about ownerships and history.
If you havn’t already please also go and check out my latest podcast with a master of woodland photography Matt Oliver. A wonderful chat with a like minded photographer was an absolute pleasure.
Check out the gallery below and drop me your thoughts and let me know about your own memories when visiting your woodland and what trees you have that play a part in your life.
